Background
Some scientists believe that at the foundation of our 'reality' might in fact be numbers and, if so, the likelihood they suggest is that it will be the number
four.
FOUR WORDS: TECHNOLOGY brings together professionals and visual art students from Leeds Beckett University
to think about our broader relationship with technology in only four words, each animated over thirty seconds to an exclusive soundtrack composed by
Scanner. Other contributors to the project include a long-term member of pioneering electronic band Kraftwerk, the founder of the
Foundation for Art & Creative Technology, sound engineers ARUP, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, East Street Arts, Leeds United Supporters' Trust and students from Leeds
Beckett's MA Art & Design and undergraduate Fine Art and Graphic Arts and Design courses. FOUR WORDS: TECHNOLOGY will remain in situ for three months, kick-starting a new curatorial programme for Leeds and is also part of an ongoing series of billboard
and screen works considering the relationship between the everyday and the avant-garde.

Quote
“The system in Platform with 24 high-definition 4k screens is as cutting edge as media gets at the moment and this is a fantastic opportunity to present some thoughts from our
students alongside some incredibly respected practitioners, all brought together to ponder our relationship with technology. We have invited an NHS Doctor and a member
of the Leeds United Supporter's Trust to think about health and sport, while others reflect on our travel, sound or communication. We chose FOUR in response to some scientists proposing that when they finally reveal the foundations of our 'reality', they suggest it may be numerical and, if so,
likely to be a strong even number such as four. It is also the only number with the same number of letters in its English name as its value. We felt it was an
interesting challenge to ask people to provide statements - no questions - using this very limited word count. Some are direct and some are more obtuse and we've also
inserted four quotes about science and technology from the past century from HG Wells, Luigi Russolo, Mary Shelley and Gilbert Ryle.” AD, November 2017.
