Come on dude, defined?

Bob's
birthday is coming up... wouldn't it be cool if we all chipped in to
have that put up on a billboard in the US somewhere? Some highway in
Dayton maybe? For what its worth, I have no clue how much that would
cost... |

good to see that you got the artists' points there . . .
there's WAY more of an edge to British Art anyway (asfar as "offending" people)
see: Damien Hirst, the Chapman Brothers . . .
Even the Virgin Mary Dung piece you mentioned was part of the British
show 'Sensation' which got alot backlash (which I guess you read) from
Giuliani whn it visited Brooklyn
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_British_Artists
Quote: | September 23rd, 1999-
Mayor Rudolf Guliani's first statement of opposition regarding the
Sensation show. He declares it to be "insulting to Catholics". He also
said that there "is nothing in the First Amendment that supports
horrible and disgusting projects," and that "if you're going to use
taxpayers' dollars, you have to be sensitive to the feelings of the
public."
Norman Siegel of the New York Civil Liberties Union comes forth,
saying that "once the government, using public funds, punishes artists
to suppress unpopular views, we are heading down a dangerous First
Amendment road." |

ugh
let's BAN it!!
Quote: | September 16th, 1999-
William Donahue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and
Civil Rights, issues a statement about the impending "beastly" exhibit
saying "I know of no other enterprise, profession or industry that
allows as many frauds to be perpetrated on it than the artistic
community. No wonder Hitler was accepted as an artist: all he had to do
was proclaim himself to be one and that was enough for the
creative-types to welcome him." The Catholic League calls for a boycott
of the Brooklyn Museum from New Yorkers and writes letters to New York
City Council asking that the museum have public funds pulled. |

Wow
- Bobs art on a giant billboard! And I heard the original collages are
really tiny usually, interesting contradiction. . .I'd love to see it
but it's too far from London and will be over soon anyway. Great
idea... and yeah, there have been a few similar projects in the UK
where artists create billboard art for tube platforms etc. but this
still is a first. And further proof that there's still appreciation
from this side of the pond... _________________ "guard your hoof" |

Made the trip to see this yersterday.... such a weird feeling seeing Bob's work on such on a grand scale anywhere let alone Liverpool.
Interestingly I climbed some steps to get a better view for my pictures only to find an empty can of Bud at my feet.....
Was definitely worth the effort. If Bob's not going to tour Europe how about a full exhibition of his collages? _________________ "If I sin I sin in self defense" |

I’ve
repeatedly tried through various hints and nudges to get the Bob camp
interested in printing his collages in the form of poster
reproductions, but nobody seems interested in doing so. I have a friend
who’s willing to do the print run at a cost of around $40-50 per 2’x3’
poster with pro-quality ink and archival paper, which could then be
sold on Ebay or elsewhere for $100-200+, but . . .
(Last time I say this. Movin' on. . .) |

I'm with you on this one....the billboard proved just how great these collages look on a larger scale.
Anyone up for a petition? _________________ "If I sin I sin in self defense" |
