The 'Millennium Billboard Project' was organised by Newcastle City Council with support
from The Millennium Festival, Countdown 2001 and The Millennium Commission.
Four of those artists involved - Alan Dunn, Michael Mulvihill, Barbara Keating and Douglas Hunter -
were invited to produce one further 48-sheet and 4-sheet billboard work to be sited at various hoardings
and bus shelters throughout Newcastle in the lead up to NY 2000.
The Council's stipulation that the following
phrase appeared on all project work - This project forms part of the Newcastle
City Council New Years Celebrations - is reversed within the design
after stumbling across the 'reversible' plaque lying discarded on a street
in North Benwell, 23rd October 2000.
